MACAU

With a high incidence of traffic accidents and fatalities, Bangkok's roads are among the most dangerous in the world. According to a report by the World Health Organization, Thailand has the second-highest road fatality rate in the world, with an average of 22,491 deaths per year.

In response, there are two main volunteer rescue teams provide assistance to those involved in accidents: the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and the Por Teck Tung Foundation. Staffed by young volunteers, these workers spend their spare nights responding to emergency situations, providing medical assistance and cleaning up after fatalities.

I spent two nights with these volunteers in June 2010, documenting their efforts.
